چکیده

INTRODUCTION – High resolution Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI) has been challenging for several reasons. Perhaps the major obstacle is due to the random phase effects that change between successive shots and pixel-by-pixel misregistration caused by patient motion. In addition, DTI images acquired with EPI are typically hampered by geometric distortion, blurring, and – in the case of multi-shot EPI – suffer from aliasing artifacts in the presence of motion. Short Axis readout PROPELLER-EPI (SAP-EPI) has been very effective in reducing distortion and motion artifacts in high resolution DTI while keeping the scan time within reasonable limits [1]. One shortcoming of SAP-EPI is that it cannot correct for the alterations in the diffusion encoding direction (i.e., the b-matrix) due to gross subject motion. In this study, we combined SAP-EPI [1] with the single-step non-linear diffusion tensor estimation [2] to perform b-matrix correction for SAP-EPI and achieve highresolution motion corrected DTI datasets.

Effects of b-Matrix Correction on Fiber Tractography in High Resolution DTI with Short-Axis Propeller EPI

INTRODUCTION –Short-Axis Propeller EPI (SAP-EPI) has been shown to be very effective in obtaining highresolution, artifact-free DTI data [2]. One challenge with SAP-EPI is that in the presence of head rotation each blade of SAP-EPI data is potentially encoded with a different diffusionencoding direction (i.e. b-matrix) (Fig. 1). Since the diffusion-encoding is ‘imprinted’ on the magnetization, ...

Correction strategy for diffusion-weighted images corrupted with motion: application to the DTI evaluation of infants' white matter.

OBJECTIVE Diffusion imaging techniques such as DTI and HARDI are difficult to implement in infants because of their sensitivity to subject motion. A short acquisition time is generally preferred, at the expense of spatial resolution and signal-to-noise ratio. Before estimating the local diffusion model, most pre-processing techniques only register diffusion-weighted volumes, without correcting ...

On the optimal correction of inconsistent matrix equations $AX = B$ and $XC = D$ with orthogonal constraint

This work focuses on the correction of both the coecient and the right hand side matrices of the inconsistent matrix equations $AX = B$ and $XC = D$ with orthogonal constraint. By optimal correction approach, a general representation of the orthogonal solution is obtained. This method is tested on two examples to show that the optimal correction is eective and highly accurate.

Self-navigated interleaved spiral (SNAILS): application to high-resolution diffusion tensor imaging.

A fat-saturated twice-refocused spin echo sequence was implemented on a GE Signa 1.5-T whole-body system for diffusion-weighted imaging. Data were acquired using an analytically designed interleaved variable-density (VD) spiral readout trajectory. This flexible design algorithm allowed real-time prescription on the scanner. Each interleaf of the VD spiral oversampled the center of k-space. The ...

Retrospective distortion correction for 3D MR diffusion tensor microscopy using mutual information and Fourier deformations.

Magnetic resonance diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) can be complicated by distortions that contribute to errors in tissue characterization and loss of fine structures. This work presents a correction scheme based on retrospective registration via mutual information (MI), using Fourier transform (FT)-based deformations to enhance the reliability of the entropy-based image registration. The registr...
